Substation - Substation Bata, Residence Kantaras Street

The measurements were performed on the 3rd October 2012 at 10:30 a.m.during clear weather conditions. The EMF measurements were performed for the residence at Kantaras Street, Kaimakli, and substation"Bata""in Nicosia. The following figures provide pictures of the area where EMF measurements were recorded.

Limiting exposure values have been provided by the ICNIRP recommendations and are guidelines to many countries and organisations. The exposure limits at 50 Hz are tabulated in the following table according to the limits given by ICNIRP.

The substation is rated at a nominal power of 500 KVA. At the time when the measurements were performed the substation load was recoreded as:

Red Phase

Yellow Phase

Blue Phase

120.00 A

105.00 A

110.00 A

Table 2: Measured Load Current when building was fully operating

From the resultant load of all three phases as shown above we note that the load is 15.41 % of the nominal load (500 KVA Transforemer). It must therefore be noted that during the summer or in periods of peak load this will directly affect and produce an increase to the electric and magnetic fields.

The highest magnetic field measurement was observed at the left side of the substation at a height of 0.3 m (2 m from the starting point). The measured value at this point was 4.162 µT and a percentage of 4.162 % as compared to the ICNIRP General Public standard.

A detailed description of the maximum measured magnetic fields in the area of investigation is shown in the following table.
