The EMF Map project is a joint study of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus and the Electromagnetic Field Measurements and Applications Lab, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Cyprus (UCY), on electromagnetic fields at power frequencies in the vicinity of high voltage assets. Measurements of the electric and magnetic field strengths are being conducted in areas located near electricity substations and high voltage power lines, in order to determine typical exposure levels for people that live or work in those areas.
Electromagnetic fields are present everywhere in nature and are usually created with the usage of electrical energy. Such fields are present in every building that utilizes electrical appliances. The strengths of magnetic fields created by some household appliances are tabulated below.

It is clear that as the distance from the appliance is increased, the strength of the magnetic field is reduced.
