Substation - Substation 383, Limassol District Administration

On the of 22nd October 2010 at 09:00 am magnetic field measurements were performed for the Limassol District Administration, 159 Anexartisias Street in Limassol and substation No. 383.

Limiting exposure values have been provided by the ICNIRP recommendations and are guidelines to many countries and organisations. The exposure limits at 50 Hz are tabulated in the following table according to the limits given by ICNIRP.

The substation is rated at a nominal power of 1 MVA. At the time when the measurements were performed the substation load was recorded as:

Red Phase

Yellow Phase

Blue Phase

559 A

486 A

449 A

Table 1: Measured Load Current when building was fully operating

From the resultant load of all three phases as shown above we note that the load is only 34 % of the nominal load (1 MVA Transformer).

It must therefore be noted that during the summer or in periods of peak load this will directly affect and produce an increase to the electric and magnetic fields.
The maximum obtained values are represented below and compared to the ICNIRP limits. The highest magnetic field inside was observed in the office area, with a value 0.12 μT and a percentage of 0.12 % as compared to the ICNIRP General Public standard.

A detailed description of the maximum measured magnetic fields inside the Limassol District Administration is shown in the following table.

Accordingly the highest magnetic field value outside was observed 0m away from the substation’s front side (2m from the starting point), with a value 26.26 μT and a percentage of 26.26 % as compared to the ICNIRP General Public standard.

A detailed description of the maximum measured magnetic fields in the outside area is shown in the following table.
