SmartSPSS Objectives

The main goal of the SmartSPSS can be achieved through the following scientific and technological objectives (STO), described by the contributing results (R), targets (T) and key performance indicators (KPI).

Scientific Objectives:

  • STO1: Innovative DER visibility, management, and control framework. To outline the pivotal requirements and provide an architecture that enables full performance visibility, optimal management (asset situational awareness) and automatic control of PV and battery storage systems.
    • [R1] Requirements and standards to enable full real-time distributed energy resources (DER) visibility, management, and control.
    • [T1] Guidelines for DER system visibility, management, and control to allow PV shares of > 20% hosting capacity of distribution feeders.
  • STO2: Intelligent distributed energy monitoring with advanced operational-state algorithms. To develop AI-driven state of health (SOH) and state of charge (SOC) algorithms, that will enhance the performance of PV and battery storage systems. KPI: improved asset performance by early automatic diagnosis of failures and outages.
    • [R2] Development of SOH and SOC analytic tool.
    • [T2] Relative improvement of the PV performance and production. This will directly reduce the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE).
  • STO3: Accurate forecasting algorithms. To implement accurate net load and PV power forecasts. KPI: improved forecasting accuracy based on the root means square error (RMSE).
    • [R3] Software algorithms for net load and PV power forecasting.
    • [T3] Net load forecasting accuracy at half-hourly intervals and intra-hour PV production forecasts < 5% RMSE.
