A main energy transition challenge is to ensure seamless renewable energy and distributed energy resource (DER) integration in modern electrical networks, through advanced management and control systems. Driven by this challenge and motivated by the current energy security issues, the proposed project targets to develop a next-generation management and control tool for solar-plus-storage systems, that will be enriched with automated artificial intelligent (AI) functionalities. The overall aim of this project is to enhance the operational performance and enable high-share grid integration of solar PV systems, by addressing innovations related to both the performance of PV (enhancing visibility in real-time and diagnosing performance issues) and their operation (optimizing grid-supportive ancillary services through PV battery synergies). These innovations will be pursued by a team of high-caliber scientists from a leading laboratory in the field of solar PV and energy systems, namely the PV Technology Laboratory of the University of Cyprus (UCY) - HO. The PV Laboratory has a significant track record and award winning research in the field of PV and energy storage systems operations and grid integration issues.
